- Suzanne has a few pesky, stubborn greys so we start with a permanent base color which is a level 4A (clairol professional) mixed with 20 volume. We process for about 45 minutes
- Wash and dry
- For her highlights, my main goal is to keep them bright and poppy! Placement is key. Less is more so she doesn’t end up with a solid looking color. I use clairol BW2 with 20 volume. I root her with a 3n for 2-3 minutes and voila she’s done.

- I did a partial highlights on my client using Wella Blondor lightener and 20 vol.
- I weaved all my foils, not as small as baby lights, but not chunky either. I’d say medium/small weave.
- Once the foils were done I went back in and tipped out her ends. Teased them and painted them with Wella Blondor and 30 vol. Popped it under heat and let the foils get to a beautiful light golden blonde (my fave!).
- I rinsed everything and then brushed out all the tangles.
- I rooted my client with L’Oréal richesse 7N with 6 vol for 20 mins on towel dried hair. The root was about 1 1/2 to 2 inches. Halfway through I combed down the root for a softer blend. As I was rooting and getting closer to her face, I just tapped the hairline with the 7N, that way you get the pop or money pieces in the front. Keeps it nice and bright around the face.
- Now this isn’t exciting, but I didn’t have to gloss my clients highlights all over. She lightened out beautifully. I also think it’s very important to watch and keep check on the highlights as they process. Sometimes you can lighten the hair to the perfect shade, and not need to tone. I very seldom lighten someone to white. In my opinion the best way to get a glossy caramel brunette is to not take the clients past that warm, pale yellow stage.
