Aside from the amazing food, Thanksgiving weekend can be super stressful, especially if you have a lot of family, or live far from home – the airport at Thanksgiving = a nightmare (trust me on that). But just because you may or may not have control over your weekend plans doesn’t mean you have to give up control of your hair. And seriously, there’s no reason to wake up on Sunday with a serious hair hangover. Don’t just survive the weekend, own it. Here’s how;
TRAVEL SAAVY
Cabin air is infamously dry. Avoid dehydrating your strands for the whole weekend with a Mane Addicts favorite – the hair mask, braid duo. Slather on your favorite hair mask or hair oil then tuck your hair out of the way and into a braid for the duration of the flight (We’re currently obsessing over Redken’s Diamond Oil Intensive Treatment Mask). After a quick rinse upon arrival at your destination, your hair will be moisturized and a soft – perfect for a grandma-approved no fuss style.
PACK SMART
The old hair dryer in the guest bathroom at your parents house is going to cause you more headache than you need. You don’t need that stress in your life, especially with the addition of Drybar’s new Baby Buttercup Dryer. It’s got its own travel bag and packs the power of a serious dryer – the kind that cuts styling time and imparts shine.
When it comes to products, there are a ton of great travel-sized options. For Thanksgiving, we suggest a styling cream or paste to smooth flyaways (like Oribe’s Creme For Style), extra elastics and a mini dry shampoo for the transition from day to night.
EAT (& DRINK) FOR YOUR HAIR
This may not be exactly what you want to hear when you’ve been looking forward to home cooked turkey and stuffing since last years meal, but one way to keep you hair from spiraling into chaos is watch what you eat and drink. Stay hydrated by drinking less alcohol and more water and pack you plate with veggies that contain vitamin C and iron, like spinach. Some seasonal hair-healthy foods? Cinnamon, sweet potatoes, and oats.
USE PROTECTION
I know what you’re thinking, but more often than not you will outside at some point during the weekend. Protect against the sunshine with products that pack UV protection and tie your hair up so that the wind does dry it out or cause unnecessary tangles, and breakage.
